Barcelona and Spain’s midfield maestro Aitana Bonmatí has cemented her place among football’s all-time greats by winning the 2025 Women’s Ballon d’Or, marking her third consecutive triumph. The prestigious award was presented at a glittering ceremony in Paris on Monday night, further solidifying her dominance in the women’s game.
The 27-year-old edged out Mariona Caldentey, her compatriot and former club teammate, to claim the top honour. Caldentey, now with Arsenal, was a standout performer for Spain during the Women’s Euro 2025, where the team narrowly lost to England in a dramatic penalty shootout in the final. England striker Alessia Russo, who played a key role in her country’s European Championship victory, secured third place.
This latest accolade places Bonmatí in elite company. She joins Lionel Messi and Michel Platini as the only players in history to win the Ballon d’Or three years in a row.
