Newcastle Crush Union Saint-Gilloise 4-0 for First Champions League Win
Newcastle United produced a dominant display in Brussels, beating Union Saint-Gilloise 4-0 to earn their first Champions League win of the season. Anthony Gordon scored twice from the penalty spot, while Nick Woltemade and Harvey Barnes added a goal each in a memorable night for the Magpies.
The breakthrough came in the 17th minute when Sandro Tonali’s volley deflected off Woltemade to give Newcastle the lead. Union tried to fight back, but Nick Pope made a crucial save to deny Adem Zorgane.
Just before the break, Anthony Elanga was brought down in the box. Gordon calmly converted the penalty, giving Newcastle a comfortable 2-0 lead at half-time.
Union created chances early in the second half through Khalaili and Zorgane, but Pope stood strong. A VAR check then awarded Newcastle another penalty for handball by Fedde Leysen, which Gordon converted confidently to make it 3-0.
Harvey Barnes came off the bench to add the fourth late on, capping off a brilliant performance.
