Spanish striker Alvaro Morata has officially moved to AC Milan from Atletico Madrid, signing a four-year contract, the Serie A club announced on Friday.
While the financial details were not revealed by either club, media sources report that Milan activated Morata’s release clause, estimated at around 13 million euros ($14.15 million).
“I am going to undergo a medical and then yes, I will join AC Milan. It’s better to part ways when you can’t give 100% anymore. I have said my goodbyes to my teammates, Diego Simeone and the board. It was important for me to do the same and thank them for everything.” stated Morata to Spanish news outlet COPE.
Alvaro Morata, who joined Atletico Madrid in 2019 for about 65 million euros, has made a significant impact at the club, scoring 58 goals in 154 matches. The 31-year-old striker recently captained Spain to victory in the European Championship.
Morata began his career at Real Madrid, where he won two Champions League titles, two La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies, the FIFA Club World Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup.
He then moved to Juventus in 2014, winning Serie A twice and the Coppa Italia three times. Morata also had a successful stint at Chelsea, where he won the Europa League and the FA Cup.
