Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo for an initial £65 million, with a further £5 million in add-ons. The 25-year-old Cameroon international is expected to undergo a medical before joining Ruben Amorim’s squad for their pre-season tour of the United States on Tuesday.
This marks United’s third major signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha and Spanish left-back Diego Leon.
A Deal Months in the Making
United’s pursuit of Mbeumo began early in June with an offer of £55 million, which Brentford rejected. A second bid of £62.5 million was also turned down.
However, the latest offer — a package that could reach £70 million — met Brentford’s valuation, making Mbeumo the most expensive sale in the club’s history.
A Breakout Season
Mbeumo enjoyed a career-best season in 2024-25, standing out across nearly every attacking metric:
-
Scored and assisted more than ever before
-
Created a high volume of chances
-
Had one of the best shot conversion rates in the league at 23.53% — bettered only by Mohamed Salah and Alexander Isak
But Mbeumo’s contributions weren’t limited to the final third. He recovered the ball 32 times in the opposition’s final third, ranking third in the Premier League.
