Inter Miami are close to finalizing the signing of Rodrigo De Paul from Atletico Madrid in a deal worth €15 million. According to Fabrizio Romano, a verbal agreement has been reached between all parties. The move will initially be a loan with a purchase clause, after which the Argentine will sign a four-year deal with the MLS club.
The 31-year-old midfielder will reunite with Lionel Messi, his close friend and Argentina teammate. Known as Messi’s “bodyguard” for his protective role during international matches, De Paul was a key figure in Argentina’s 2022 World Cup victory and recent Copa America titles.
De Paul’s move marks another major addition to Inter Miami’s increasingly star-studded roster, which already includes:
-
Lionel Messi
-
Luis Suárez
-
Jordi Alba
-
Sergio Busquets
This move reflects the club’s strategy of building a team full of experience, chemistry, and international pedigree.
Despite being an important player at Atletico Madrid, De Paul appears ready for a new challenge. His recent exclusion from the Spanish side’s preseason tour signaled his impending departure, which is now nearly complete.
De Paul will also be under the guidance of Javier Mascherano, adding further familiarity to his new environment.
For David Beckham’s Inter Miami, the signing signals their ambition to dominate MLS and expand their global footprint, blending star power with tactical strength.
