Real Madrid have officially secured the signing of Argentine teenage forward Franco Mastantuono on a six-year contract, marking another addition to their growing roster of young talents.
Mastantuono, who came through the ranks at River Plate, completed his medical before putting pen to paper in the presence of club president Florentino Pérez.
Reports suggest Madrid paid around €45 million ($52.5 million) for the highly-rated attacker, whose signing had been agreed in advance but could only be made official once he turned 18. To mark the occasion, Mastantuono was gifted a personalised jersey bearing the number 30, a model of the Santiago Bernabéu, and a commemorative watch.
Mastantuono said:
“I promise I’ll give everything I have for this shirt”
“It has always been a dream of mine to play for the greatest club in the world.”
The Argentine becomes Madrid’s latest acquisition in a busy transfer window that has already seen Dean Huijsen arrive from Spain and Trent Alexander-Arnold join from England.
This summer’s rebuild comes after a frustrating campaign in which Los Blancos were edged out of the La Liga title race by Barcelona, failed to reach the Champions League final, and endured a poor run in El Clásico encounters. The changes also extend to the dugout, with Xabi Alonso replacing Carlo Ancelotti, who has since taken charge of the Brazilian national team.
Madrid will kick off their league campaign at home against Osasuna on Tuesday, with fans eager to see whether Mastantuono will feature in the squad.
