Bournemouth has signed Mexico defender Julian Araujo from Barcelona for a reported £8.5 million ($10.9 million). Araujo, who has agreed to a five-year contract, ended his brief stint at Barcelona, where he didn’t make any competitive appearances.
Born in California, the 23-year-old right-back began his career at LA Galaxy before joining Barcelona in 2023. He spent last season on loan at Las Palmas. He has also earned 13 caps for Mexico and was part of the team that won the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup.
This move marks Bournemouth’s fifth signing since the end of last season.
“Julian is someone who we have tracked for a while now and we’re delighted to bring him to Bournemouth,” said chief executive Neill Blake.
“He’s a young player with high potential and we’re pleased to have beaten lots of competition for his signature.
“We believe we have all the tools here for Julian to build on the quality he already has and we really look forward to welcoming him to Vitality Stadium.”
