Indian Football Soars to 99th, Secures Pot Two for World Cup Qualifiers

The Indian Men’s Football Team has successfully surpassed their previous 100th rank, rising to the 99th spot in the most recent FIFA rankings. This impressive climb secures their desired spot in Pot 2 for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The last time the national team enjoyed a ranking below 100 was back in December 2018 when they held the 99th spot.

The team’s exceptional performances in various international competitions like the SAFF Championship and Hero Intercontinental Cup undoubtedly played a pivotal role in this sudden and remarkable jump.

The Indian team has moved up to position 18 in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), which is a significant improvement from their previous position of 19. In the meantime, Tajikistan’s position has declined, creating an opportunity for India to rise.

The draw for the first and second rounds of the combined qualifying for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and the AFC Asian Cup 2027 is scheduled for July 27, 2023.

Indian football fans have every reason to be excited and proud of their team’s future on the world stage, given India’s rise in the FIFA rankings and their impressive performances in previous competitions. The entire world will be eagerly waiting to see how India’s football tale plays out as the team continues to showcase its abilities.
