AS Roma sign Romelu Lukaku on loan from Chelsea

Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku has joined AS Roma on a season-long loan, as announced by the Serie A club on Thursday.

This is Lukaku’s second time in Italy, as he previously played for Inter Milan from 2019 to 2021 and returned on loan last season.

Lukaku will be reuniting with manager Jose Mourinho at Roma. Mourinho previously coached him at Chelsea and later signed him for Manchester United in 2017.

According to sources, Roma will pay a loan fee to Chelsea, which could amount to £8 million ($10.1 million) depending on Lukaku’s performance.

Chelsea agreed to the loan but requested that Roma contribute a substantial portion of Lukaku’s high weekly salary, which amounts to approximately £300,000.

Lukaku Said:

“The welcome I’ve received from this club and its fans has excited me and given me even more motivation to give my all for my new team. As an opponent, I felt the atmosphere of the Stadio Olimpico, and felt the warmth of the Romanisti,”

“It’s nice to know I’m a part of it today. I recently got the opportunity to speak with the owners, and I was impressed by their ambition. Now we must work, be humble, and grow game by game. For my part, I can’t wait to be available to my teammates both on and off the pitch.”
